They’d better! \n\nBarreling straight out of the crazy mind of Josh Collins (Pervirella\, Perv Parlor) like a revved up muscle car down a comic strip highway\, ‘Fags in the Fast Lane’ is a movie put together with comedic charm\, glue gun and lashings of lipstick.\n‘Fags in the Fast Lane’ takes off in the tradition of lost GBLT classics such as ‘The Gay Deceivers’\, ‘The Pink Angels’\, ‘Zorro the Gay Blade’ and Thailand’s recent and amazing ‘Miss Lady Boy’. \nCollins\, who’s last film Pervirella was shot in London\, has been a fan of the Trashploitation genre since his school days\, stating “Trash cinema sticks a gaudy finger up at anyone who tows the line. It challenges\, it outrages\, it undermines the norm. Trash cinema is punk cinema. Why be good\, when you can be bad.” \n\nPacked with old school special effects\, trompe-oeuils illusions\, detailed model work and distorted perspectives the film lavishes in the clichés of the movies of Hammer\, Carry On\, Mario Bava\, John Waters and Russ Meyer. It will make you laugh out loud at its sheer silliness\, sharp dialogue\, bad taste and colorful sex scenes. \n“Trashploitation is not about realism\,” states Collins\, “rather using its own twisted version of reality to critique and lampoon contemporary comforts and morals. QRC PDX amplifies the voices of LGBTQ youth and strives to create a foundation for young people to engage in intergenerational connection; peer alliance and youth-generated empowerment; and self-expression and community building through musical performance. It features Portland bands performing covers of lost nuggets of the ‘60s and headlining acts of the era. Launched in 2007\, Nuggets Night has become a beloved annual event based on generosity\, community\, and the desire to celebrate some of the most revolutionary music ever created. Past beneficiaries include the Portland School of Rock\, Ethos Music School\, Artist Mentorship Program\, the Jeremy Wilson Foundation\, Oregon Music Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund\, Rock and Roll Camp for Girls\, and KISN 95.1 FM. \n\nABOUT THE QUEER ROCK CAMP PORTLAND \nQueer Rock Camp Portland (QRC PDX) is an annual weekly summer camp that seeks to engage LGBTQ youth ages 12-23 in musical self-expression. QRC PDX amplifies the voices of LGBTQ youth and strives to create a foundation for young people to engage in intergenerational connection; peer alliance and youth-generated empowerment; and self-expression and community building through musical performance. It’s a thing. Original rock music bands\, unless they’re rich and famous\, generally perform in the shadows. Their friends come to see them\, and download their music. They might make beer money. “Lords Of Blackpool” are four musicians from original\, beer money bands. They came together in early 2018 to jam 60’s British Rock\, over a shared love for Beatles\, Stones\, Kinks\, Hollies\, Yardbirds\, Badfinger — all the cool stuff. In a sense\, they’re a rebel band. The Lords focus on b-sides and obscure album tracks. Stuff you might not know. Songs that could be\, y’know\, ORIGINAL. That means they might not be welcomed into the ranks of heralded tribute bands. But the Lords are defiant. They don’t seem to care. But damn\, they rock\, and they sing real good. They also make no effort to look like 20-year old British war babies circa 1964. They’re Americans.\nIt’s the 21st Century. Yet somehow — black magic\, maybe? –Lords Of Blackpool manage to conjure what those redcoat aliens were all about. It’s fun to watch.
