It will all pan out
One of the best one-night music festivals of the year happens this week — Nuggets Night, when Portland bands pay homage to ‘60s and ‘70s garage, psychedelic and bubblegum rock singles. This year’s show features Honus Huffhines, Metropolitan Farms, Paradise, The Pynnacles, Verner Patons, Blue Skies for Black Hearts, The Cool Whips, Beyond Veronica, Au Dunes, The Zags, Thee Four Teens, The Hauer Things, Red Shadows and Ten Million Lights. The night’s special treat is long-time Portland punk singer Monica Nelson performing with her new band The High Gates. In addition to rocking out in the ‘80s and ‘90s with the Obituaries, Nelson has distinguished herself as a social activist (you can learn more at monicanelsonmusic.com).
This year, Nuggets Night will benefit House of Sound (houseofsound.org), a member-supported Internet broadcasting community. Transmitting from the Watershed building since 2008, House of Sound’s “mission is to present a variety of aural stimulation by Portlanders to the world.”
